Mathews Timbers and Chain of Custody

::: OVERVIEW

Mick Mash, IT Manager, explained “The whole idea was to get in early as we expect it will evolve in some way, and we want to improve the process as we learn”. Mathews Timber have embraced the new certification regulations for Chain of Custody and found TIMMS pivotal in helping them through the audit process.

::: THE AUDIT PROCESS

Using TIMMS “we just showed them the audit trail... the packs that came in, how we adjusted the packs, how the packs were split, with all the documentation reflecting the changes.”

“There was a lot of paperwork involved in the initial audit, as the auditors want you to show that certification is maintained through your documentation”.

Mathews Timbers were able to simplify processes after the first audit and by the second audit they were able to show the same information, but in a manner less cumbersome to the business and staff.

Mick went on to say “We are confident (in TIMMS’ ability to track certified stock).. it will definitely cope and I’m sure as more and more people get online with Chain of Custody, TIMMS will evolve as it always does and there will be adjustments to make it easier again.”

::: BUSINESS BENEFITS

Mick said that Mathews have had a definite increase in enquiries for ‘only certified timber’ and while the sale figures themselves haven’t started reflecting the increase they expect it to flow through relatively quickly.
